As much as I love art and visual stimulation I've found I am particularly captivated by certain kinds of images. One is the straight-on, confrontive gaze of a powerful woman. Over the years I have returned over and over to this theme, sometimes creating images that seem to shake me to the bone. Several years ago I became increasingly obsessed with such images, even to the point that after a hard day of creating such things, I would go home to crash and the next moment I realize I'm drawing more of the same! Then the US invaded Iraq and suddenly my possession made sense: I was channeling the energy of a feminine response to the crazed masculine outrage unleashed upon the world! This resulted in an exhibition I called Sentinelle: America at War.
